FAQ

House Dust Mites

How can I find out if I have House Dust Mite allergy?

Early morning runny nose, sneezing, teary eyes or cough are signs that you are reacting to HDM allergens. If the asthma attack occurs frequently at night or early morning it suggests that the main causative culprits are HDM. Visit an immunologist/allergist and perform a blood allergy test to determine the exact cause of your allergy.

What measure should I take if I am allergic to House Dust Mites?

Once a proper allergy avoidance program is implemented, allergy symptoms can be dramatically reduced or eliminated. Use Demitze™ Allergicover HDM-proof encasings over your mattresses, pillows and bolsters. Wash bed sheets, bed spreads, pillow cases and blankets in water heated to 60°C for at least 5 minutes to kill the HDM. For fabric sofas, carpets and other soft furnishings, use Demitze™ Anti-Dust Mite solution every 3 - 4 months.

Do I need to replace my old mattress and pillow?

Using Demitze™ Allergicover will protect the user from the large number of HDM even in old mattresses and pillows. However, if your mattresses and pillows are over 5 to 7 years old it is advisable to replace them and cover the new mattresses and pillows immediately with Demitze™ Allergicover before the HDM colonize these beddings.

I can see something crawling on my mattress. Could it be a HDM?

HDM cannot be seen by the naked eye, making it even more important to encase the mattress to protect you from HDM.

I have 5 bedrooms but want to encase the mattress in only 1 room - is that sufficient?

We usually recommend that all mattresses, pillows and bolsters within a household are covered. This is especially important to prevent cross contamination between the bedrooms.
